Character Creation Rules

  • Characters will be created at dedicated face to face session
  • All characters are members of the AFFC and are either directly assigned to the 3rd Battalion / Second Company or support it (technicians and support staff)
  • Review and answer the Pre-Character Generation Questionnaire. You don’t need to post your answers or provide them to the GM, but you should answer these questions in your mind prior to the character creation session
  • 5000 XP initial pool
  • Federated Suns, Lyran Alliance and Independent affiliations permitted. Federated Suns and Lyran affiliations will be modified as per Era Report: 3052
  • Life Modules preferred, Point Buy with GM approval
  • Limit of 2 passes through Stage 3 – Officer Candidate School (OCS) does not count as a separate pass
  • Decrease XP pool by 100 XP for each year of age under 21 at end of Stage 4, before optimization
  • Increase XP pool by 100 XP for each year of age over 21 at the end of a Stage 4 pass, these additional XP are available for purchasing additional Stage 4 modules or for Optimization. For example, a character is age 18 at the end of Stage 3 with 2220 XP left to spend in Stage 4, the character then purchases ‘Civilian Job’ module for 600 XP and +6 years, decreasing XP pool to 1620 XP and increasing age to 24; after allocating the XP associated with the ‘Civilian Job’ module, the character gains 300 XP, bringing the total remaining pool to 1920 to spend on other modules or optimization.
  • You can use any character record sheet you want. However, all Player Characters (PC) must have Obsidian Portal wiki entries before they are used at the table, including crunch, character portrait and biography. Utilize the Content Not Found: blank-character-entry as a model for entering your character’s crunch data. I copied some of the data from the Aerospace Pilot example character from AToW to demonstrate how to use the tables.
  • Details about the Player Company and equipment
  • The Armed Forces of the Federated Commonwealth (AFFC) will provide each character with (no need to purchase):
    • Dress and duty uniforms
    • Quarters and meals
    • Neurohelmet, cooling vest and side arm (slug throwing or laser pistol)
  • If a character owns their own Battlemech via the Vehicle Trait (+2 TP), they automatically have a personal Neurohelmet and cooling vest at no charge
  • After character creation, I’ll upgrade to Ascendant so we can use Obsidian Portal’s forum, message board and secret communication.
  • Obsidian Portal’s calendar feature will be used to manage session scheduling
  • Officers are expected to:
    • Handle unit tactics
    • Complete battle reports (Adventure Logs)
    • Communicate with their superiors (GM)
    • Manage the unit status (repairs, ammo, medical)
    • Plan training scenarios with the GM between missions
  • NCOs are expected to:
    • Support the officers
    • Manage the troops and their performance
    • Provide good roleplay opportunities (early morning PT anyone??)
